​​​​Sierra Nicole Kinsora is a multi-disciplinary artist and American expatriate based in France. Trained in classical ballet from the age of 5, her performance work is a hybrid of institutional dance and butoh. She is a co-founder of the dance company Infradanse with Tudi Deligne. She regularly performs in France and Belgium as a soloist. She is currently directing a new work for three dancers inspired by the book Cosmogonies by historian Julien d'Huy.

"I am drawn to what exists below the threshold of form: instinct, sensation, the tremor of the viscera. I work to delay meaning by transforming everyday actions into visceral, dreamlike scenes that resist classification. At the heart of it all: the fragile, subtle nature of the organic.

​

The work begins with constraint : imbalance, repetition, and limitations. From this tension, a physical imagination awakens. I aim to activate the nerves of the skin, like the first shiver before goosebumps. Sensations precede movement. Heat sparks action. The body seems to be moved by invisible forces—as if something is being done to it, rather than being done by it. The dancer hangs on the edge of a precipice, following what the body wants to say before the mind can name it.

I work to undermine intention, so that something more essential can surface: a visceral desire, a physical question, a fragment of memory emerging from the inside. What stories does the body want to tell?  As the concentration deepens, perception tilts. This shift, I hope, will become palpable. The heartbeat, breath, gaze, and attention of the performer are not just visible—they are contagious.

Through this heightened state, I seek to build a bridge between performer and observer that is both tangible and elusive. The audience is drawn in through their own five senses, entering in direct contact with the dancer’s inner world.

Through the phenomenon of mirror neurons, neuroscience offers a poetic reflection of this process : our brains have cells that fire not only when we move, but when we witness movement. These pathways allow viewers to physically and emotionally resonate with what they see. I aim to gently activate this embodied empathy, inviting the nervous systems of my spectators into dialogue with my own.

BIOGRAPHY

Her dance education brought her to Ecole de Princesse Grace de Monaco, North Carolina School of the Arts, American Ballet Theatre, Kirov Ballet, and Lines Ballet. At age 18 she left ballet behind to join the circus. From 2013 to 2016 she performed aerial silks and acrobatics with the Cabiri in Seattle, Washington and began her study of butoh with Masaki Iwana and Moeno Wakamatsu.

 

At 22 years old, she moved to Paris and obtained her BA in Cinema from EICAR in 2019, earning Best Cinematography and Outstanding Achievement awards. That same year, she co-founded the dance company Infradanse with Tudi Deligne. Her directorial debut, Styx (2020), screened at European film festivals. In 2024 she directed the dance film The Bead and the Furrows in the region of Carnac, France.

 

Since moving to France she regularly performs in Paris, Normandy, and Charente-Maritime. She has participated in festivals En Chair et En Son, Couleurs du Silence, ZOUI!, and the Butoh Festival de TENRI. In 2025 she performed her solo Barbie at SALO, the salon of erotic art in Paris.
